The images are from cameras placed inside a Barn Owl nestbox on the island of Islay, Inner Hebrides, Scotland.
The 2009 season
For this second year of our owl cam, we now have two much smaller cameras than before, giving a better view of the whole box as well as higher resolution pictures. We have left the two old cameras in place and these can be seen as circular glowing lights. The images should be in colour during the daytime and in black and white in the evening and at night.
Latest news - 3rd June 2009
The owl laid six eggs this year, starting in late March, and four young hatched. One is much larger than the other three and is presumably the first egg laid, which was followed by a gap of some days before the remainder of the clutch appeared. We think that only three young have survived.
The Islay Natural History Trust is grateful to Scottish Natural Heritage for grant aid towards the costs of this project, and to Michael Thomson of Gribloch Design Ltd., Bowmore, for so willingly providing his technical skills. Bruichladdich Distillery were also very helpful in allowing Michael time off from his work for them to install and test the equipment. We also thank James Brown for a generous donation.
